  9. Here is a list of some important files and directories on the disc.

  11. setup.exe             Installation program for Windows.
  12.  
  13. utils\w32view.exe     File Browser for Windows 95, Windows NT, and Win32s.
  14. utils\w16view.exe     File Browser for Windows 3.1.
  15. view.exe              File Browser/Uncompressor for MS-DOS.

  17. qrz.exe               DOS callsign lookup program.  You can also run this
  18.                       directly from the DOS prompt by switching to your
  19.                       CDROM drive and typing qrz instead of view or go.

  32. Quick Start Instructions:
  33.

  35.   Windows 95:
  36.     You can install the program icons by selecting the "Start" menu and
  37.     choosing "Run".  At the Run box, type: "D:\setup",  assuming 'D' is
  38.     your cdrom drive.
  39.  
  40.   Windows 3.1/NT:
  41.     Go to "File" menu under program manager and choose Run.  At the
  42.     Command Line box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.
  43.     This will install a group folder with icons for this cdrom.
  44.  
  45.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  46.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  47.     Example:
  48.           C:\> D:
  49.           D:\> view

  51. Using the 00_INDEX.HTM:
  52.  
  53. We have included 00_index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  54. to view our disc.
  55.  
  56. In order to view this disc using these 00_index.htm files, point your
  57. Web browser to the root level 00_index.htm file.

  59. For example, in Netscape:

  61.   1. Click on "File"
  62.   2. Click on "Open File"
  63.   3. Choose your CDROM drive
  64.   4. Select the 00_index.htm file

  74. The 00_index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 3.0 (Windows,
  75. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), and Internet Explorer 3.0 (Windows).

  81. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  82. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  83. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  84. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  85. onto your hard disk.

  104. More Email Addresses!
  105.  
  106. Email Address Database QRZ was born on the Internet and is today one of the
  107. most popular amateur radio Internet sites anywhere.  Over the past year,
  108. we've been collecting the email addresses of amateur radio operators from
  109. around the world.  Now, for the first time we are able to share them with
  110. you as a component of the main QRZ database.  There are over 71,000 e-mail
  111. addresses available on this CDROM. The email addresses are displayed right
  112. along with the regular callsign data, whenever they are available.  If
  113. you're on the Internet (http://www.qrz.com), it's easy to add your e-mail
  114. address to the database.

  116. By email, you can add or update your e-mail address by sending a short
  117. message to:

  131. New Home Page Links

  133. You'll find a new item in the main QRZ directory, our collection of
  134. user web page links from around the world.  You'll find pointers to
  135. the home pages of hundreds of amateurs.  Look for hampages.htm and
  136. try it out (You'll need a browser like Netscape and an internet
  137. connection).

  140. More Digital QSL Cards
  141.  
  142. Our collection is rapidly growing and now includes over 1200 digital
  143. images.
  144.  
  145. It's easy to add your favorite photo, QSL card or other image to the next
  146. QRZ CDROM and have it associated with your callsign using any of the
  147. methods below.  If your image is already in gif format (400x300 max) then
  148. you can send it to us over the Internet by using anonymous FTP at:

  152. You can also mail us your image on floppy disk.  We prefer .JPG formats and
  153. will convert your image to .JPG format if necessary.  We reserve the right
  154. to reject any image that we feel is inappropriate.

  160. Your card, floppy, photo, etc., will not normally be returned to you.  If
  161. you must have your copy back, then please include a self addressed stamped
  162. envelope (SASE) with your letter.  Scanning at QRZ is generally done in
  163. batches so it may be a few weeks before it appears on the Internet and
  164. several months before it hits the next CD.

  166. Callsign Database Updates
  167.  
  168. We now have listings from USA, Canada, Australia, Austria, Mexico, UK,
  169. Italy, Turkey, Monaco, Brazil, Portugal, Cuba, Taiwan and miscellaneous
  170. listings from everywhere.  Since the introduction of our online DX
  171. callsign registration form, we've begun to take on hundreds of new,
  172. exotic callsigns each month.  We're still looking for more DX callsign
  173. databases, and you could qualify for a free subscription to QRZ for
  174. helping us obtain more countries.  For more info contact the author

  177. Note: Neither QRZ or Walnut Creek CDROM edits or updates the FCC callsign
  178. data.  If the U.S. information contained in the QRZ Ham Radio CDROM is
  179. incorrect for any callsign, all corrections must be done directly with the
  180. FCC.  The easiest way to do this is to fill out a Form 610 and send it to
  181. the FCC.  The master database at QRZ (http://www.qrz.com) is updated daily
  182. with the latest FCC information available.

  184. Note that we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the callsign database for any
  185. country including the USA.

  188. International Shareware, Info and Mod Files
  189.  
  190. As we continue to improve the quality of our shareware and public domain
  191. data files, we've added a major new section of German/English language
  192. amateur radio files.  Be sure to check them out under X:\german (use your
  193. CDROM drive letter instead of X').  You will also notice that the file
  194. indexes are larger, more complete and include descriptions, file sizes and
  195. timestamps.

  198. QRZ on the Internet

  200. http://www.qrz.com always comes as one of the first hits when you search
  201. InfoSeek for 'callsign'.  Over 500,000 have visited the QRZ Web Site which
  202. features a Netscape enhanced interface.

  204. http://www.qrz.com also provides a point and click interface for our
  205. complete anonymous FTP server, our online catalog as well as the master
  206. copy of the QRZ Callsign Database (with online GIF image display), an
  207. online email registration form, and an online DX callsign entry form.

  209. Be sure and visit the QRZ Anonymous FTP Server on the Internet
  210. (ftp.qrz.com), and/or the mirror site at wcarchive.cdrom.com.  All of the
  211. files found on the QRZ CDROM are there as well as any new updates since the
  212. last edition.  If you would like to contribute shareware or public domain
  213. files of amateur radio interest, you are encouraged to FTP your material to
  214. ftp.qrz.com. You should login with user id anonymous and your e-mail
  215. address as the password.
